Exploring China: A Culinary Adventure Travel Documentary hosted by Ken Hom and Ching-He Huang, published by BBC in 2012 - English narration Information ------------------------------ Ken Hom and Ching-He Huang cook their way across China in a visually rich culinary journey against the backdrop of ancient and modern Asia. Beyond a culinary odyssey, this will be an emotional homecoming, a cultural adventure, and an anthropological and historical road trip. Ken and Ching travel over 5,000 miles across this vast sub-continent, taking in both the ancient and the modern. Over four episodes they explore contrasting destinations along China's most significant trade routes. Beginning in the vibrant capital of Beijing, they explore the city that China has presented to the west and the rural villages outside of Beijing. After travelling through China's spicy Sichuan heartland, they explore the influence of minority cultures in Yunnan and the mystical northern city of Kashgar. And finally, in an emotional climax, Ken and Ching return to their ancestral homes to reveal the secrets of a Southern China we rarely see. Produced by Keofilms. Part 1. Their journey begins in Beijing, the country's imperial capital for 800 years, where quintessential Chinese dishes such as noodles, dumplings and Peking duck are now being showcased with a new culinary confidence. Ken and Ching cook for world-class chefs in the city's most celebrated restaurants before visiting ordinary Beijingers to learn traditional cooking methods. They also travel to the village of Chuandixia, where ancient traditions are being celebrated and preserved. Part 2. They explore the effects of sweeping modernisation in China's fastest growing city, Chengdu. It is the capital of Sichuan province, where the locals cling on to their identity through food. Here, in one of the culinary capitals of the country, they explore the complex spices that set Sichuan food apart and make it the most memorable of all Chinese cuisines. And in a desire to get under the skin of the city, they explore the back streets in search of the most authentic dishes and traditional snacks. They also visit homes and restaurants to banish the gloomy Sichuan climate with some hot and fiery cooking. Part 3. Ken and Ching leave the country's megacities and venture across China's vast western frontier to encounter a nation few know. From the tropical jungles of Yunnan to the deeply divided Muslim city of Kashgar, their journey exposes them to the culture and cuisines of the country's ethnic minority groups, who make up almost 10 percent of the population. Part 4. Ken and Ching make an emotional return to their ancestral homes, the climax of their entire journey, before reuniting for their final meal in Hong Kong. They start first in the dim sum capital Guangzhou to explore the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine, the food most familiar to the west, before heading their separate ways. Ching travels across the south China sea to Taiwan where her food journey began at her grandmother's knee, while Ken cooks for relatives he hasn't seen for more than 23 years. Stacey Dooley Investigates Health-Medical Documentary hosted by Stacey Dooley, published by BBC in 2013 - English narration Information ------------------------------ Stacey Dooley Investigates Over the course of this hard-hitting three-part series, Stacey Dooley investigates the new frontlines of the global war on drugs, heading to remote and hostile regions to meet producers, traffickers, the authorities, law enforcement agencies, and addicts and locals caught in the crossfire 1) Cocaine Capital of the World Stacey investigates why Peru has taken the title of the world's cocaine capital. Her journey starts in Lima where she meets the Brits locked up in Peru's jails for smuggling cocaine to Europe. Travelling into the countryside she then discovers how alarmingly easy it is for cocaine to be grown and produced here. Stacey joins government forces as they launch a major crackdown in an attempt to destroy this multi-million dollar industry - but will the fightback be enough? Finally she travels deep into the rainforest where farmers are growing a new super strain of coca plant. Able to grow in damp jungle conditions it threatens to open up millions of new acres to coca production and flood the world with even greater quantities of cocaine. 2) Thailands Drug Craze Stacey investigates the growing drug craze sweeping through Thailand. Yaba, a dangerous mix of methamphetamine and caffeine, has gripped the nation and unleashed a wave of violence among its users. She uncovers the human cost, visiting a ward full of 'zombie' addicts, many of whom face the risk of long term psychosis, and meets users who have started taking the drug as young as 12. Stacey joins the Thai authorities as they try to fight back, joining patrols near the Burmese border and drug raids on Bangkok bars. In Bangkok she discovers that dealers are starting to target western tourists and asks if this dangerous new drug could soon claim its first victims amongst British tourists. 3) Europes Dirty Drugs Secret Stacey travels to Ukraine to investigate the struggle to keep drugs out of the UK and reveals that drug cartels from South America have been using it as a transit hub to smuggle cocaine into Western Europe. In Odessa, officials show her the tricks traffickers use to hide drugs within cargoes and she learns that customs officials are notoriously open to bribes. Stacey discovers that local drug users are resorting to horrific homemade substitutes including 'crocodile', so called because it rots the flesh of users and turns it scaly. Stacey meets young addicts as they make a batch from bleach, petrol and tablets. Learning they have only months to live, Stacey is also shocked to hear that police have recently found 'crocodile' in the UK. Mr Blue Sky - The Story of Jeff Lynne & ELO | BBC.ZigCOM.mp4

"Funny, shy, ever so clever, great musician ... and a total twat," says Paul McCartney, rather affectionately. Jeff Lynne, producer, arranger, collaborator, genius, wizard. Worked with the great and the good – Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and George Harrison (as the Traveling Wilburys ), and with the other remaining Beatles (on the Anthology album). It's a great rockumentary: serious, without taking itself too seriously, probably because that's how its subject is. Lynne's brummie (man from Birmingham UK) hero dude. And Macca's little summary of him seems to be spot on. But "twat" in the nicest possible way. ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) is mentioned too, but only in passing, which is fair enough since the documentary is mainly abut the man himself. And boy isn't this one well overdue. Please share, don't be a c*nt!

Dr Jacob Bronowski traces the steps of scientific imagination through history as they happened, where they happened. This lavish and thought-provoking series tells the story of the ideas that have transformed our lives. More than three years in the making, with location filming in over 20 countries, this award-winning series remains compelling viewing. 5.0 out of 5 stars By AJ Averett (Potsdam, NY United States) May 27, 2012 This extraordinary series, thirteen fifty-minute episodes, is one of television's greatest achievements; four decades after its completion, it has lost little of its luster. A mathematician whose professional journey included work on the Manhattan Project, later at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, as well as an editor and scholar of the works of William Blake, Dr. Jacob Bronowski was one of the last true Renaissance men. Presented here is a veritable smörgåsbord of human history cast against scientific advancements and technological innovations that take the viewer around the world, from the dawn of Man to the then-present of 1972. Along the way, Dr. Bronowski stops to examine some of humanity's highest achievements - and lowest depths of depravity. One outstanding quality of this remarkable series is that he speaks to the viewer directly and very personally through the lens of the camera; the book of the same name is a virtual transcript of his remarks. Not simply lectures (nor read from a script), these extemporaneous essays offer Bronowski's "personal view" on a wide range of human, scientific and technological history, presented in both a dramatic and memorable fashion. For example, the episodes are sprinkled with delightful (and often moving) anecdotes of various people, some of whom Bronowski knew and worked with - such as Leo Szilard (who first conceived the concept of sustained nuclear fission - even coining the term "chain reaction" - and who subsequently wrote the letter which Einstein signed that was sent to FDR, bringing about the Manhattan Project) and John von Neumann (one of the great mathematicians of the twentieth century and the "Father of Electronic Computing"). Anyone with even a passing interest in the history of our species and its place amongst the stars, or of science in general, will be astonished, delighted, deeply moved and profoundly affected by "The Ascent of Man." The production value is of the highest order throughout (and, now in its second DVD incarnation, the sound, which was always somewhat problematic, has been greatly improved, matching the often stunning visuals). The most powerful episode of the series is, without question, number eleven, "Knowledge or Certainty," which begins with this two-sentence paragraph: "One aim of the physical sciences has been to give an exact picture of the material world. One achievement of physics in the twentieth century has been to prove that that aim is unattainable." Bronowski continues, a short time later: "There is no absolute knowledge. And those who claim it, whether they are scientists or dogmatists, open the door to tragedy. All knowledge is imperfect. We have to treat it with humility." Truer words were never spoken -- then, or now. Highest possible recommendation.

BBC Earth - Life - Deel.01- 1080x264. There is Life after Planet Earth. 01: Challenges of Life 02: Reptiles and Amphibians 03: Mammals 04: Fish 05: Birds 06: Insects 07: Hunters and Hunted 08: Creatures of the Deep 09: Plants 10: Primates Bron: BluRay Formaat: MKV 1080ix264 Audio: Eng DD.5.1 640 Kbps Audio: Ned DD.5.1 448 Kbps Subs: Nederlands File.Nfo: Format : Matroska File size : 5.10 GiB Duration : 47mn 28s Overall bit rate : 15.4 Mbps Writing application : mkvmerge v3.3.0 Writing library : libebml v0.8.0 + libmatroska v0.9.0 Video Format : AVC Format profile : High@L4.1 Bit rate : 14.0 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Resolution : 24 bits Writing library : x264 core 104 r1683 62997d6 Audio Format : AC-3 Bit rate : 640 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Title : Engels DD5.1 Audio Format : AC-3 Bit rate : 448 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Title : Nederlands DD 5.1 Text Format : UTF-8 Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8 Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text Title : Nederlands http://www.blu-rayaanbieding.nl/bluray-planet-earth-life.html
